Spay Our Stray ProgramEstablished as the first official program of AFWC, in coordination with our mission, this program was created for Animal Friends to sponsor the dogs that enter into the Wyoming County Animal Shelter to help cover the cost of their medical needs whether it be Spay & Neuter surgeries or life altering operations.

Pets For Vets ProgramSince our conception, AFWC has always wanted to give back to the men and women that keep our great nation free and safe. In 2017, that desire created a program designed to not only help and give adoptable dogs from the Wyoming County Animal Shelter a second chance, but to also be a support for our military families.

Dog Trainer and AFWC Program Director Thomas Purcell created the Pets For Vets Program. Tom, being a veteran himself, knows first hand what a good companion animal can do for veterans coping with their return home from service. Using his training abilities and freely donating his time, Tom throughout the years has successfully paired what seemed to have been unadoptable dogs to some of the best success stories the shelter has ever seen! Though this program is not a service dog program, Tom does work one on one with both the veteran & family and with the dog to make sure the adoption is the right fit. In addition to training a dog to be paired with a veteran, AFWC works to make the adoption process as financially bearable as possible. Those who qualify for the program will have some expenses such as dog licenses reimbursed and microchipping done as well as the first bag of dog food to help get the veteran and their family a good start-up.
P. U. P. P. I. E. S. Program *Currently Under Development*
P.U.P.P.I.E.S. is an original acronym created by AFWC meaning "People Under Parental Preparation in Excellent Service". Since 2016, AFWC has been working on a program to reach kids in our local community in hopes of educating them on treatment of animals as well as learning what animals are in our backyards. From exposing kids to the dairy industry in Wyoming County to planning and experiencing animal related field trips, to simply meeting once a month for an animal related youth group setting, AFWC hopes that this program, when launched, will help train young minds on the importance of taking care of the amazing creatures and companion animals we have been blessed with! *If you are interested in seeing what can be done to launch a program like this, please contact Sam at AFWC* |
